Frau Holle seems to have made a mistake in the date: On the first weekend in August, snow is to fall in the high altitudes of Baden-Württemberg.
Stuttgart - Actually, it's still a while until autumn, but with the current weather in Baden-Württemberg, you might think that summer is already over. The jet stream is currently causing Germany to be hit by polar air. The temperatures in the southwest are therefore between 20 and a maximum of 25 degrees at the start of August. In addition, there are always precipitations, showers and thunderstorms. Summer feels different.
Now it should not only continue autumnally, some regions of Baden-Württemberg could even face a small onset of winter - and that in the middle of August. "Now it's coming very thick in the form of snowflakes," announces meteorologist Dominik Jung von wetter.net in his latest forecast. In the coming week, "comparatively extremely cold air masses" are expected to hit Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. This has consequences: the snow line in the Alps drops to 1,700 meters. The low-lying regions also feel the effects of the polar air. The night temperatures are sometimes below 5 degrees.

Weather in Baden-Württemberg: Polar air causes snow line to drop
The weather in Baden-Württemberg is slipping from one extreme to the next. After June and July were extremely hot and dry, cold air has been hitting the southwest since mid-July. Due to the current weather conditions, the warm air from southern Europe simply does not make it to us anymore. The last weekend in July will also remain changeable and bring a lot of rain, partly showers and thunderstorms. There is no improvement in sight even in the first week of August. "Next week it will gradually get cooler and cooler," Dominik Jung announces.
On Saturday (5 August), Baden-Württemberg is facing a cold snap. At an altitude of 1,500 meters, according to forecasts, there will only be 2 to 3 degrees. "This means that even in the Black Forest on the summits, there can be sleet and snowflakes on the Feldberg." Even at low altitudes, shivering is the order of the day, especially in the early hours. Directly above the ground, the temperature is between 6 and a maximum of 10 degrees. Pretty fresh values for August 5th. "That could also be a tomorrow in October," says Dominik Jung. "Creepy weather maps" show that it will remain cold and wet well into August.
Hikers in the Alps in particular need to be careful on the first weekend in August, the meteorologist warns. On Friday (4 August) and Saturday (5 August) there could be snow at an altitude of 1,700 and 1,800 metres, the expert continued. Snow at this time of year, however, is not as unusual as some might believe. This happens every now and then.

In the rest of the regions of Baden-Württemberg you also have to wrap up thickly. In addition to low temperatures, it will continue to be rainy and wet. The European weather model ECMWF has made calculations for the rainfall totals up to 7 August. These make it clear that summer will not return so quickly. Up to 120 litres of rain per square metre are expected to fall at its peak in the first week of August. There is a threat of a deluge during the summer holidays.
From 1 August, the decline in temperatures begins. The last bit of summer is washed away by rain. On Tuesday (1 August) the maximum temperatures will be 24 degrees, it will rain continuously throughout the day. With each passing day it gets a little bit cooler. Wednesday will be a maximum of 22 degrees, on Thursday only 21 degrees. "There's just nothing happening. A stable summer high is not to be expected," says Dominik Jung with a view to the weather map.
