A 14-year-old boy rescued a sixty-six-year-old pensioner who was about to drown. It happened in the afternoon in Gioia Tauro, in the Reggio area.
The pensioner decided to swim despite the sea being rough and a strong wind blowing. When the fourteen-year-old noticed that the old man was in trouble, he did not hesitate to jump into the water to help him. Despite the strong currents and high waves, the boy managed shortly after to reach the sixty-six year old and lead him to shore, with many difficulties emitting his own life at risk.
The pensioner was rescued by the 118 staff, who had arrived on the scene in the meantime, and was taken to hospital for checks. His condition, however, is good.
On the spot also the carabinieri and the staff of the Coast Guard, who had words of praise for the boy who carried out the rescue intervention.
