The northern districts of Echingen bid farewell to Peter Grimm, their mail carrier – he was only 58 years old. An obituary.

Günzenhausen – It happened during the job he carried out with body and soul: Recently, Peter Grimm, the universally popular and esteemed postman, died at the age of just 58. He succumbed to a heart attack during his daily service tour through the northern districts of Eching. Paramedics and the doctor of the rescue helicopter could only maintain a tireless life for a short time.

Peter Grimm often said to his daughter Rebecca: "I won't be older than 60 years." Unfortunately, his gloomy hunch was true. Before his family moved from Brandenburg to Bavaria in 2000, Peter Grimm worked in many areas to earn a living. He worked in mining, as a train driver, as a machinist, as an excavator driver and as an officer in the military (1984 to 1987).

When he arrived in Bavaria, he started first as a freight driver and then from 2001 as a mail carrier in the northern districts of Eching. Peter Grimm had arrived. Always friendly, courteous and communicative, he became an integral part of the daily routines of many families over more than two decades and often a "felt" member of the family. A child in his delivery area liked to say to every passing yellow car: "Here comes Peter". At a farm in Deutenhausen, he also brought the parcels directly to the workplace, for example to the potato cellar. Over the years, he knew where and how to get the necessary signatures. In the office of a landscape architect, his reliability and conciliatory manner were particularly appreciated.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Peter Grimm not only did his job, but was synonymous with a good mood – despite daily stress and in all weather conditions. As a sign of appreciation, his customers have come to meet him to take at least one out of a hundred sprints from the car to the mailbox. He was also offered a cup of coffee or simply left a piece of cake on the mailbox as a token of appreciation. In his private life, however, the divorce from his wife weighed heavily on him, unnoticed by everyone.

His two Santa Clauses gave him great pleasure: the twins of his daughter, born on December 6th.

At home, the versatile hobbyist was passionately involved in the expansion of his model railroad layout or with his aquarium. How deep the relationship to his profession was was now evident in his estate. All Christmas and thank-you cards collected over more than two decades from "his" Deutenhausen, Ottenburger and Günzenhausen residents were carefully stored in a collection box. Peter Grimm gave a lot to people.
