Environmental Protection Minister Idit Silman on Thursday attacked the recommendation of Attorney General Gali Baharav Miara to stop the pilot for separate bathing in nature reserves in the summer, claiming that this requires appropriate legislation: "I regret that instead of working to heal the rifts in society, a path was chosen that is all about increasing tension and rift among the people through a solution of legislation alone."
According to her, requiring the legislation will not only delay the regulation of separate bathing, which even in the pilot is "proportionate, limited and extremely limited, and does not harm the general public," but that the very regulation of the matter in the law will trigger petitions to the High Court of Justice on the grounds that it constitutes religious coercion. "The striving for equality and pluralism ends when it comes to the needs of the ultra-Orthodox and religious Arab public," she said.
In her recommendation, Miara argued that "the outline presented is limited in scope, and its approval can be considered as a first step towards legal regulation. However, it cannot be a substitute for legislation," she wrote.
MK Moshe Gafni of the Torah Judaism faction also responded to Miara's decision: "In the Attorney General's Office, the word 'equality' exists only in a certain public and not when it comes to the ultra-Orthodox, religious and Arab public.

In July, Meara today attacked the government's moves in the shadow of promoting the legal revolution, accusing: "We are under pressure to make certain decisions in concrete cases that you are conducting or in investigation files that you are examining. Even in legal counsel, we are pressured to bias our professional judgment and violate our duty as gatekeepers."
Outside Bahrav-Miara's home, anti-Semitic graffiti were discovered, including "The's House," "Selective Enforcement," and "Criminal."
Miara was also slandered by the coalition, with the day after her statement, Minister of Justice and Minister of Liaison between the Government and the Knesset, David Amsalem of the Likud, strongly attacked Attorney General Gali Baharav Miara. In a speech at the Knesset plenum, Amsalem said that Rabbi Miara is "the most dangerous person for the country," as he put it.
"The government doesn't control. Yesterday, they closed the train, they closed Ben Gurion Airport. Everything is fine. There is actually a rebellion in the IDF today - and is it? Doing fen and roll and seeing nothing. I can't see, I don't hear," Amsalem accused.
He also referred to the cabinet meeting on the guidelines on demonstrations held more than a week ago and called not for the first time to remove it. "She disgraced the government when she came to the cabinet meeting. Until we move it from there, it should be moved yesterday. It is a security damage. It poses a real danger to the stability of the State of Israel as a democratic state. Move it and you will see that anyone who breaks the law will be punished by law. Offender? They are working against him," Amsalem said.
