The Perseid meteor shower is an annual event that happens between late July and August, visible on Earth. Also known as the tears of San Lorenzo for the approach with the celebration of the saint, the event lasts for two or three nights.
Although they are perceived as shooting stars, the phenomenon is different. These are the dust particles left by comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle in its orbit around the sun. The luminous effect occurs when these granites cross the Earth's atmosphere, attracted by planetary gravity. Due to friction, these particles heat up and vaporize, creating small meteors.
The name Perseids comes from Perseus' comet, since in his investigations carried out in the nineteenth century, the particles seemed to come out of that place. This phenomenon usually occurs between July 17 and August 24. This year, there is already a date set to be able to witness the magnificent event.
The days to observe the meteor shower
The astronomical event will happen this weekend.
The Perseid rain will happen this year during the night of August 12-13. The ideal would be to find a place of low light pollution, to be able to better appreciate the shooting stars. People will be able to observe between 10 or 30 stars per hour.
In addition, experts recommend not using binoculars to be able to see it better. Meteors pass with great speed, so it is best to have a complex view of the sky at the moment.
