This is the bad surprise of the summer for hundreds of consumers: an electricity bill of a few thousand euros, as part of a regularization linked to the rise in prices. On social networks, customers who feel cheated go wild. Some are trying to form a collective, as revealed by Franceinfo.
The customers concerned are subscribed to the services of alternative electricity suppliers, in particular Engie and Italy's Eni. "We have been seized of many cases related to very high bills," corroborates Caroline Keller, spokesperson for the energy ombudsman, for whom the origin of the problem is generally related to "the renewal of fixed-price supply contracts, over periods of three years". At the time of the recommitment, in 2022 or 2023, the rates were not at all the same as three years earlier, without this increase being understood by consumers. Especially since some were convinced of being protected by the tariff shield...
