Extinguishing operation in the elementary school yard: Unknown persons set fire to a scooter on Friday night. Several young people are causing even more unrest in Gilching.

Gilching – A blazing scooter in the playground of the Arnoldus elementary school on Talhofstraße in Gilching was probably the finale of a whole series of actions by a youth group on Friday morning at around 2:45 a.m., which had already caused unrest among residents and police in Gilching the evening before.

As Gauting's head of inspection, Andreas Ruch, announced on Friday, there had been a first operation at around 23:15 p.m. at the corner of Kosthofstraße/Apostelweg. Residents said that noisy youths were constantly hitting an old container and operating its flap. When the police patrol from Gauting arrived at the old container, the young people were already gone. "But the officers were able to secure two smoked joints with the help of a police dog handler and his narcotics dog, who was also notified," reports Ruch. A short time later, calls were received again, according to which noisy young people in the municipal area had knocked over several traffic signs at construction sites. The police officers put up the traffic signs and construction fences again and were still in the area when at 2.45 a.m. the integrated control center Fürstenfeldbruck received the message about the burning scooter.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire

The report was made by a 20-year-old man from Gilching. When the police arrived, the scooter was on fire in the middle of the square, which is also used as a training ground for the youth traffic school. "The two-wheeler, which was on fire, was extinguished by a squad of compressed air breathing apparatus," reported Michael Klinglmaier, deputy commander of the Gilching fire department, on Friday. "Subsequently, we supported the investigative measures of the police and secured the scene." Among other things, the emergency services also searched for and found the license plate of the scooter. After three-quarters of an hour, the firefighters were able to move away again.

All that remained of the scooter was the linkage. "Fortunately, there was no danger to people or even to the school building as a result of the fire," reports Ruch. Police and firefighters have no doubt that it is arson. The group is said to have consisted of a total of eight young people, between 16 and 18 years old, including a girl. Police Chief Inspector Ruch is confident that he will be able to clarify the matter. Because early the evening before, several young people had noticed the staff at Stockschützenplatz on Frauwiesenweg in Gilching: They drove around on a scooter on the Stockbahn. "Therefore, the suspicion is that this scooter was the one that was later set on fire," Ruch concludes his report. Now the first thing to do is to look for its owner. (hvp)
