Waiting for a small component

Highlights: In autumn 2022, the Weilheim State Building Authority installed traffic lights at the Wörthsee junction with the A 96. To this day, it does not work because an electronic component is missing. Most of the time, there is a crash when drivers coming from Etterschlag want to drive onto the motorway to Munich. Fortunately, there have only been accidents with high sheet metal damage so far, the last one only two weeks ago. In autumn 2022, the Weilheim State Building Authority installed traffic lights at the Wörthsee junction with the A 96. To this day, it does not work because an electronic component is missing.

Wörthsee/Weßling – When the State Building Authority installed a traffic light at the Wörthsee junction in October 2022, the Weßling fire brigade was delighted. This was because it had to be called out regularly because the intersection had developed into an accident hotspot. The traffic light has been in place since October 2022. But it doesn't work. The reason: "We are still waiting for an electronic component," says Jacob Eberle from the Weilheim State Building Authority, slightly strained, when asked by the Starnberger Merkur.

When the Weßlingen bypass was completed in 2015, a veritable series of accidents began at the exit onto the A 96. "We went out every two weeks, you could say that," Weßling's fire brigade commander Michael Schütz reported yesterday. Most of the time, there is a crash when drivers coming from Etterschlag want to drive onto the motorway to Munich. "They underestimate the speed of road users coming from Weßling and think to themselves: I can do this," explains Schütz. Fortunately, however, there have only been accidents with high sheet metal damage so far, the last one only two weeks ago. "We've been puzzling for a long time why the State Building Authority doesn't just turn on the traffic lights," says Schütz. The accidents at the intersection were already known by the fire brigade as "El Clásico". "When the alarm goes off, we already know what's going on." In the past, the fire brigade was still waiting for the towing service. "It has always taken too long, because we all have to go back to our jobs." In the meantime, the rescue workers would only push the vehicles to the side after the accident had been recorded and end the fire brigade operation. Even for uninvolved motorists, the accidents at the point are annoying. "We always have to close the junction in order to be able to work safely," explains Schütz.

Jacob Eberle is not happy with the situation either, and it is difficult for him to hide his frustration on the phone. "The company that was supposed to deliver is difficult to reach," he says. The traffic light should have been working for a long time. Incidentally, the building authority has the same problem with the traffic lights on the north side of the junction in Inning. The same electronic component is missing. Wörthsee's mayor has already asked. "We annoy ourselves. It's not that we like it." For the construction of the traffic light system in October, a nightly full closure of the junction for several nights was necessary in order to be able to carry out the civil engineering work (we reported).

Commander Michael Schütz is happy when the traffic lights will hopefully finally work soon. "But basically, of course, it is up to the drivers to assess the situation correctly." With the situation at this point, however, some are obviously overwhelmed and also too fast on the road.
