A committee in the U.S. state of Georgia has decided: The former U.S. president should be charged again. This time it is about the allegations of attempted election interference.
Washington/Atlanta - In the U.S. state of Georgia, former President Donald Trump is facing another indictment. A jury in Atlanta decided that Trump should stand trial for his attempts to influence the outcome of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. This is evident from the indictment, which was available to several US media.
The ex-president's campaign team had previously reacted indignantly to the imminent further indictment against Trump. Shortly before the expected decision on a potential criminal case, it complained in a written statement about the "latest coordinated attack" by a biased prosecutor. The timing of the action shows the political motive behind it. "They could have done this two and a half years ago, but chose to do so in the middle of President Trump's successful campaign for reasons of election interference," it added. But Trump will "never give up and never stop fighting."
Trump had lost the election to Democrat Joe Biden. Georgia was one of the states that played a key role in the outcome of the election. The result there was very close.
