(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 17 - Nearly 300 migrants and refugeesarrived on Lampedusa after midnight on Thursday (figures updatedto around 9 am local time) following four sea rescues by coastguard and finance police patrol boats and two autonomouslandings.
The new arrivals came on top of the 492 people who disembarkedon the tiny Sicilian island in 13 separate landings onWednesday.
As of Thursday morning there were 2,133 people in the hotspot inContrada Imbriacola, with 1,000 people scheduled to betransferred off the island during the course of the day. (ANSA).
