Michael Eberle wants to build on his "most exciting professional time": The Schongauer is now the new Vice President of the Augsburg Regional Court.

Schongau – On August 1, Michael Eberle took up his new position: He was promoted to Vice President of the Regional Court of Augsburg. The first days of negotiations are already behind the Schongauer. Right at the beginning, it was about rape, says Eberle. A second-instance trial, the defendant had not agreed with the verdict of a jury court.

As director of the Landsberg District Court, he was able to apply for the position like other directors and was finally selected. "I'm looking forward to my new role," says Eberle in an interview with the Heimatzeitung. As is always the case at first, he is still in the process of settling in and "finding his way around the larger building," he says and laughs.

Sport and firefighting as a balance to work

However, Augsburg is not entirely new to him: from 2004 to 2008 he was already working in the Fugger city, at that time as a public prosecutor and group leader. His "most exciting time professionally", as Eberle says. And, of course, he would like to build on that. At that time, he was responsible for narcotics proceedings and had succeeded in dismantling several drug organizations from the field of organized crime. Despite the labour-intensive position, Eberle has fond memories of the good cooperation among his colleagues.

Professional career

Michael Eberle took up his first position in his judicial career in 1995 as a civil judge at the Memmingen Regional Court, from where he moved to the Memmingen Public Prosecutor's Office in 1996 and to the Kempten Public Prosecutor's Office in 1998. In 2000, he went to the District Court of Kaufbeuren, where he worked as a family and juvenile judge. After his time as a public prosecutor and group leader in Augsburg, Eberle continued his judicial career from 2008 as head of the traffic department at the Munich II public prosecutor's office. As early as 2009, he was transferred to the Weilheim District Court as deputy director. Eberle was promoted to Director of the Landsberg District Court on 1 July 2016.

Now he will serve as a presiding judge of a criminal chamber, an appeals chamber, and at the same time face the challenging tasks of administering a court. "It is about one-third administrative activity and two-thirds judicial task," Eberle sums it up. In terms of content, his work can be compared with his previous one in Landsberg. But there are now not so many procedures, for which one would have to go even deeper into the justification. And while files at the district court usually comprise around 100 pages, at the district court it is now often 600 pages.

The amateur athlete can find a balance by cycling, swimming or ice hockey. "I hope that I still have time to occasionally attend a game of FC Augsburg or the Augsburg Panthers," reveals Eberle, who is also active in the volunteer fire brigade in Schongau. And with a two-year break, Eberle has been a member of the Schongau city council since 1996.

Effects on city council work in Schongau?

Will the new position have an impact on his work as a city councillor? In any case, he would like to continue it, says Eberle. Of course, the journeys to and from Augsburg are a little longer, and we also have to wait and see how the meeting in Schongau develops. "I'm only in my third week at the district court."

What is difficult, however, and it has already been for him in the past, are the committee meetings in Schongau, when they start at 15.30 p.m. This is the case with double meeting days – i.e. when a city council meeting is scheduled after a committee meeting. Otherwise, committee meetings start at 17 p.m.

The start in the afternoon "is difficult for any working person," Eberle told the Heimatzeitung. He had also addressed the problem in a previous meeting. Eberle is a member of the swimming pools, auditing and works committees and is a member of the board of directors of the Plantsch municipal company.
