Many obstacles still have to be cleared out of the way before it can be reactivated, according to the BN district group Landsberg. Participants in the Climate Cycle Tour set an example with an action under the motto "Please get in". On the track near Asch, they boldly demanded that the Fuchstalbahn be reactivated for passenger traffic. To do this, they set up a twelve-meter-long banner painted red, which indicates a local transport vehicle of the railway.

Asch – The action was intended to "symbolically put the train on the tracks", as Richard Mergner, state chairman of the Bund Naturschutz, described it. This goes hand in hand with the appeal to Prime Minister Markus Söder and Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter to invest money for rail transport instead of for the expansion of roads.

All municipalities would have to participate

Peter Satzger, chairman of the BN district group Landsberg, admittedly pointed out that it is not only the fault of the Bavarian state government. If the Fuchstalbahn were to be reactivated, all municipalities along the route would have to participate. Considerations of building a cycle path on this rail line are the wrong way to go. One should not play off one climate-friendly variant against the other.

Fuchstal's mayor Erwin Karg emphasized: "As a municipality, we stand behind the Bund Naturschutz and the Fuchstalbahn project." Fuchstal and the city of Schongau are the two municipalities that fully support a reactivation of local public transport.

Second or third car not affordable

According to Karg, some people have not yet understood that the belt needs to be tightened. As a result, people can no longer afford a second or even third car in the countryside. That's why it makes sense to reactivate local public transport – even on the way to work and school.

Irmgard Schreiber-Buhl from Schongau recalled the commitment to reactivation that had been going on since 1999 after local passenger transport on the 29-kilometer route between Landsberg and Schongau was discontinued in 1984. She is a spokesperson for the Fuchstalbahn working group in the Pfaffenwinkel environmental initiative and wanted to show visions in an "optimistic future scenario".

Clearing many more obstacles out of the way

Schreiber-Buhl mentioned that this year 6287 sleepers were renewed on the route between Kinsau and Hohenfurch and 8500 tons of gravel stones were brought in. In the municipalities of Unterdießen, Fuchstal and Denklingen, the number of inhabitants has increased by 1984 percent since 50. A good Bike & Ride or Park & Ride offer from the municipalities makes train travel more attractive. A bus shuttle as a feeder for the train stop at Leeder and Asch is the crowning glory. Unfortunately, "many obstacles still have to be cleared out of the way" before it can be reactivated.

The picture campaign for the Fuchstalbahn was embedded in the four-day climate bike tour undertaken by the Bund Naturschutz through the Allgäu and western Upper Bavaria. A few hours earlier, the participants learned about photovoltaics in open spaces and made a stop at the Erbenschwang waste disposal center.

Many more inhabitants

After an overnight stay in two accommodations in the Fuchstal, the next morning, the first completed wind turbine in the Leeder municipal forest was another destination, according to Thomas Frey, regional officer at the Bund Naturschutz für Schwaben.
