Storm damage in Bad Tölz: After the storm blew the roof of the Alte Madlschule, the Kulturverein Lust fears for the future of its venue.

Bad Tölz – "Phew," says Josef Müller and pulls his hand back from the sand mixture of the false floor, "it's totally wet". Müller and some members of the cultural association Lust have returned to their rooms in the Madlschule to inspect the damage. The storm in the storm last Saturday had literally pulled off the tin roof of the school. Underneath, no roofing felt, but the battens and then the false floor. The rainwater found its way and gushed out of the cable and light wells.

The Tölz fire brigade, says "Lust" chairman Jeannette Stahlberg gratefully, had secured the roof quickly and provisionally and lifted down the chimney, which threatened to break through. Nevertheless, the damage is enormous. The ceiling in the theatre room of the "Lust" is peeling off extensively. It is not yet possible to say whether the sensitive headlights, loudspeakers and all the technology are affected. The electricity is turned off. The expressions of the "Lust" members on site are serious as they discuss how to proceed.

Jeannette Stahlberg reports at a meeting after the on-site visit that she has good contact with the city. This is the owner of the 129-year-old former school, which was extended in 1904. It is not yet clear how the renovation will continue in concrete terms. In any case, the traditional venue is not usable for the time being.

Kulturverein Lust in Bad Tölz worries about its venue

The biggest concern of the "Lust", which celebrates its 40th anniversary next year, is the coming autumn season. About ten events, including the Lehardsabende, were planned, says Norbert Zandt. It was enormously important – also for the artists – to quickly get clarity as to whether things would continue.

And it goes on. The "Gasthaus", also an established cultural and art organizer, is stepping into the breach as a venue. In the former beer cellar deep under the restaurant in Bahnhofstraße, top-class cultural events have been taking place again and again since 2009. Now the "Lust" will move in there at least until the end of the year. "Gasthaus" boss Tino Kellner immediately signaled approval, Sepp Müller is pleased about the neighborhood help.

"We're happy to do that," says Kellner. They have never gotten in each other's way over the years. The "Lust" is an association that has been doing a lot on a voluntary basis and on its own for decades. "That's where we want to help."

In addition, he had scaled back his cultural program in the fall because of the currently meager demand. "We're not angry if the 'Lust' brings its fan base with it." And what's next in the new year? "We don't know," says chairwoman Jeannette Stahlberg. Ironically, before the 40th anniversary, the association is "in front of a pile of shards". Sepp Müller, former chairman of "Lust", is confident: "We are firmly hoping for the help of the city, which has been a good landlord for us for 40 years." (Christoph Schnitzer)
