The Adamello glacier, the largest glacier in Italy, since 2015 has recorded a loss of 50 hectares of surface (equal to 70 football fields).
The Mandrone glacier, part of its glacial complex, in the last 12 years has recorded a frontal retreat of 330 meters, of which 139 meters only in 2022. These are some of the monitoring results presented on the occasion of the fourth stage of the Legambiente Glacier Caravan.
The international campaign to monitor the dramatic retreat of glaciers due to the climate crisis promoted by Legambiente with the scientific partnership of the Italian Glaciological Committee, in collaboration with Allianz Foundation, with main partner FRoSTA, supporting partner Sammontana and Seiko and technical partner Ephoto; which this year takes on an international dimension, thanks to the collaboration with Cipra with two of the six stages located in Austria and Switzerland, in order to build new alliances through an exchange with the European research world but also with citizens and local institutions.
