2023 year of restart for tourism, but 2019 remains unbeaten - Itineraries

2023 for the Italian tourism industry is confirmed as the year of the definitive restart on the leisure front, but above all on the international incoming front, but, waiting for the data of the month of September with 9 million Italians traveling, the numbers of 2019 are still not exceeded. Foreigners in Italy increased (+3.6%).
The United States stand out (17.3%) and the USA represent the engine of the recovery of world tourism with a 13% increase in trips out of the United States, to foreign countries, such as Italy and Greece. In absolute values, the tourists registered in the accommodation facilities are about 50.5 million, for a total of about 207 million overnight stays.
These are data from the BIT Observatory (sources Assoturismo-Confesercenti, Confturismo, Bank of Italy, ENIT, ForwardKeys, Italian Hotel Monitor, Ministry of Tourism) illustrated today for the presentation of the next edition of the International Tourism Exchange (Milan, Allianz Mico, 4-6 February 2024).
In May 2023, Italy's balance of tourism payments was in surplus of 2.3 billion euros, a slight increase compared to the same month of 2022 (2.0 billion).
Both the spending of foreign travelers to Italy (4.7 billion) and that of Italian travelers abroad (2.4 billion) recorded an increase, respectively of 20 and 25 percent, compared to the corresponding month last year. For the month of August, Italy (43.3%) confirmed its position ahead of Spain (42.8%) and France (30.6%) for the booking rate of accommodation facilities on online platforms. The preference was for cities of art.
In August, 702,500 passengers arrived at Italian airports, +1.1% compared to August 2022. In the last five years, the average expenditure for a trip to Italy is around 1,760 euros. Americans spend more, while Spaniards and French spend less. 32.3% of Americans spent between 2000 and 5000 euros for their last stay in Italy.
