The Schottenhamel marquee wants to provide more safety at the Oktoberfest. It cooperates with the Munich-based app "SafeNow" – which offers those affected in dangerous situations a call for help at the touch of a button.
Munich - Drunken visitors, crowds in the marquee, way home in the dark: A visit to the Oktoberfest should above all be fun, but with the amount of people who will crowd the Theresienwiese from September 16, a dangerous situation cannot always be avoided. Whether it's a brawl, abusive behavior or an acute medical emergency – in such moments, quick help is needed.
That's why Festhalle Schottenhamel is cooperating with the SafeNow call app this year. The app was developed by a start-up from Munich that enables calls for help at the touch of a button in emergency situations. Those affected click on a button on their smartphone screen – and an alarm signal sounds directly on the devices of the security staff on site or with selected friends and family members.
Oktoberfest tent Schottenhamel cooperates with SafeNow app from Munich
"We are proud to announce that Festhalle Schottenhamel is an official SafeNow partner at the upcoming Oktoberfest," the start-up writes on its Instagram account. Schottenhamel is one of the 14 large tents at the Oktoberfest 2023 - and is also the oldest among them. The approximately 10,000 guests who fit into the Festhalle at the same time can feel even safer with the app this year.

As SafeNow founder Tilman Rumland explained in an interview with our editors, SafeNow makes it possible to "get help at the touch of a button". Often, those affected do not dare to dial the emergency number if they feel uncomfortable in a situation – the inhibition threshold is too high. Those who have installed the app, on the other hand, can send an alarm signal to friends or family members. To do this, you have to have saved the contacts in the app beforehand. If you press the button in the app, a loud warning tone is immediately played on the mobile phone of the emergency contacts. In addition, they see a notification on their screen and can see the location of the person concerned.
In case of danger at the Oktoberfest in Munich: Quick help via app
In so-called security zones, the responsible helpers are also informed about the dangerous situation and the exact location of the person – for example, the security on site. It is precisely this concept that Festhalle Schottenhamel is now joining as a SafeNow partner. The aim is to help those affected as quickly as possible. The prerequisite for this, of course, is that either they themselves are still able to operate their mobile phone – or an outside observer sends the alarm via app.
