A close control of the leash requirement in the sports park is demanded by VfB Hallbergmoos. The reason is an U13 training session at the weekend, which was stormed by a German shepherd.
Hallbergmoos - Club chairwoman Anna Klug and football department head Martin Gilch speak of a "drastic event": Last Saturday, the football department held a training camp for the U13 kickers on the artificial turf pitch: "Suddenly, a shepherd dog stormed across the pitch and chased our players' children. Even if the dog supposedly just wanted to play: He jumped at the children and bit into a soccer ball."
After a grab at the ear, the four-legged friend calmed down again
After the trainers, the description continues, were busy "calming the completely dissolved, crying children, the dog could finally be caught by the owner with brute force on the ear. This was the only way to finally calm down the terrible situation." The letter to the municipality continues: "We don't even want to imagine if the dog had bitten a child." Meanwhile, the dog owner left the place unnoticed. "Unfortunately, we could not act fast enough to report him to the police," regret the club officials.
VfB wants to report dog owners who are resistant to advice to the police in the future
Now VfB wants to take rigorous action against owners who do not keep their dogs on a leash: "In the future, we will report every dog owner who leads his dog through the sports and leisure park without a leash to the police." In addition, it is hoped that the municipality will apply for more patrols in the area. And: "We reserve the right to consider a ban on dogs on VfB's leased properties on the part of the football department."

Josef Niedermair, head of the town hall, strongly disapproves of "the irresponsible behaviour of the dog owner". "We will pay more attention to the leash requirement and sensitize our in-house technicians. If you don't keep your dog on a leash, you can expect a ban on entering the sports and leisure park," he told the FT. The police will also be asked for increased attention.

According to the mayor, a general ban on dogs on the sports facilities leased by VfB is "of course possible". The legal situation, as the head of the town hall points out, is clear: Dogs with a shoulder height of more than 50 centimeters - including shepherd dogs - must be leashed on all public paths and places in the local area according to the ordinance. In the sports park, dogs are generally prohibited from running free. Anyone who does not comply commits an administrative offense.
