Highlights: Singer Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, known as Peso Pluma, received three threats allegedly from the Jalisco Cartel New Generation (Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación – CJNG) warning him not to hold the concert. The mayor of Tijuana, Monserrat Caballero, said during a press conference that "we will have the same security in the concerts: National Guard, state and municipality"

In a message apparently left by the criminal group led by Nemesio Oseguera, 'El Mencho', the popular Mexican singer of corridos tumbados was warned to desist from his presentation in that city.

Singer Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, known as Peso Pluma, who scheduled a performance in the city of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, for October 14, received three threats allegedly from the Jalisco Cartel New Generation (Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación – CJNG) warning him not to hold the concert.

"This goes for you Featherweight, refrain from presenting yourself on October 14 because it will be your last presentation, this for disrespectful and loose tongue. You introduce yourself and we are going to split all your M***. Att CJNG," one of the messages said.

The discovery of the narcomantas, as the messages left by the drug trafficking groups are called, took place in the early hours of Tuesday, September 12.

According to authorities, one person was detained while running one of the ads.

Featherweight, who plays corridos about crime characters, is scheduled to perform at the Caliente Stadium, which is located inside the Agua Caliente Racetrack, and has a capacity of 27,333 people. It has been reported that all seats have been sold out to see the singer.

The mayor of Tijuana, Monserrat Caballero, said during a press conference that "we will have the same security in the concerts: National Guard, state and municipality, personal security already depends on him."

He added: "If there was a risk to someone [the event would be cancerous, however] at this point we have not determined that there is a risk."

Who is Featherweight?

Although people know him as Featherweight, that's actually what the group is called, in which other musicians such as his cousin Tito also play. His name, Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, is of Arabic inspiration and, his grandmother told him, was where his ancestors came from.

With the cadence of the trumpets in chime and the characteristic tone as out of tune of the singers of the regional Mexican genre, Peso Pluma has conquered the main positions of the music charts worldwide.

From his private concerts at celebrity Mexican parties, PesoPluma has gone on to some of the biggest music stages in the United States, including the Coachella festival in Southern California.

Last April, the native of Jalisco caused a furor when he appeared on one of the stages of that musical event with the Mexican-American artist Becky G, with whom he sang his new duet Chanel.

The traditional corrido singers dress in the cowboy style of the towns of northern Mexico and do not miss in their attire a pair of leather boots and a Texan hat.

Many of the new generation of singers maintain that characteristic appearance of the Mexican regional. That is not the case of Featherweight, who seems to have abandoned that image in favor of a more modern way of dressing, with cap, tennis shoes and jackets of synthetic materials.

In a May interview with Noticias Telemundo, commenting on the regional Mexican genre, Featherweight said, "I feel very, very good. I know people are starting to get to know about this movement and I'm not the only one. I'm not the only one who paved a road, a lot of people made this possible and now I'm the one who represents a whole genre, a whole country, and there are a lot of people who are fighting and battling and have a dream. I want to tell them that all dreams are possible if they really surrender, if they really believe and trust in themselves."
