The grills were glowing at full speed: On Saturday and Sunday, there was a lot going on at the fishermen's festival of the Dorfen-Altenerding sports fishing community on the Thalheim village square. More than ever before, the organizers estimated.
Maria Thalheim – The traditional festival with family-friendly prizes took place in glorious late summer weather, and in the end "all expectations were far exceeded," said Anton Braun, chairman of the sport fishermen since this spring. After 15 years, there has been a new record for the number of visitors and fish sales. Braun reported: "Visitors have never knocked down our doors like this before." If you know what's usually going on at the festival in good weather, then that's saying something.
"Business was already going sensationally well on Saturday, and the visitors stayed at the tables in the warm summer weather with candlelight until 23 p.m.," says Braun. "On Sunday, there were even more. Our fish grill specialists worked permanently at the limit to keep waiting times as short as possible. With set-up and dismantling, we had 60 fishermen on duty this weekend, ten of them youth fishermen. That makes me particularly proud."
The fishermen's friends had set up two shady tents, the many benches and tables outside were well protected. Once again, a wide variety of fish specialties were offered. The Steckerlfisch, trout and mackerel, were also freshly smoked from the smokehouse. There was also fish soup, calamari, fish fillets, fish nuggets and, of course, the classic fish roll. Coffee and homemade cakes, pies and pastries made by the fishermen's wives sold like hot cakes in the afternoons. Many citizens took advantage of the wonderful weather for a bike tour or a walk on the Marienweg and stopped at the fishermen's festival. Tom
