Some accommodations are expecting overnight stays during the Oktoberfest period this year. In the Tölzer Land, however, bookings have declined.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen – Beer, pretzels, brass band music: Around six million visitors celebrate at the Munich Oktoberfest every year. But it's not just the festival grounds that are well filled during the 18 days – many hotels in the district are fully booked weeks in advance.

The Oktoberfest guests come as far as Arzbach

Every year, guests stay at the Bio-Hotel Benediktenhof in Arzbach to go to the Oktoberfest. So far, Managing Director Klaus Bichler has occasionally booked Oktoberfest guests in his calendar. "Most of the time, some are added at short notice," he reports on his experiences.

Oktoberfest goers can take it easy at the "Hotel am Wald" in Bad Tölz. According to Sandra Fritz from the management, only about 50 percent of the rooms there are occupied. "People are waiting to see what the weather will be like," says Fritz. "If there's a golden autumn, we're more likely to be fully booked." After all, their guests are usually not over-motivated Oktoberfest tourists.

It doesn't get any more expensive. "We're just too far away for that." In order to be able to enjoy the Oktoberfest itself in Bad Tölz, the hotel will organize a Oktoberfest evening. With gingerbread hearts, roasted almonds, chicken and Oktoberfest beer, the hotel celebrates a small Oktoberfest on site with its guests.

"In Munich, the contingent of hotels and beds has simply grown rapidly"

In general, it is difficult for the tourist information office in Bad Tölz to assess whether many Oktoberfest guests spend the night in the spa town. "Since more and more holidaymakers are booking via the usual online portals, we do not have a detailed overview in advance," explains Deputy Spa Director Susanne Frey-Allgaier. Nevertheless, she has noticed for several years that fewer Oktoberfest holidaymakers stay overnight in Bad Tölz.

"In Munich, the contingent of hotels and beds has simply grown rapidly. Most of them are accommodated in the city," she says. Nevertheless, there have still been a few classic Oktoberfest bookings. "These are usually larger groups of Italians on the classic middle Oktoberfest weekend," she reports with a laugh.

In Lenggries you can't speak of a Oktoberfest rush

In Lenggries you can't speak of a Oktoberfest anstrum so far. TI boss Maria Bader says: "Many inquiries also come at short notice. And regulars who come at the same time every year are more likely to book directly with the host anyway." Many holidaymakers do not know whether they come to Bavaria specifically because of the Oktoberfest or whether they spend their holidays here in any other way. "For example, our hiking autumn, which also falls during the Oktoberfest season, always attracts a few."
