When you go to rob a grocery store, so as not to do it with unique clothes. That's what a 35-year-old grocery robber from Tel Aviv learned the hard way, believing that if he hid his clothes around his house and hid under a kitchen table, the police wouldn't find him. Unfortunately for him, the police searched under the table, and a DNA test determined that the clothes found and identified as the robber's clothes were indeed his. Over the weekend, he was indicted on charges of robbery.

About two weeks ago, in the early hours of the morning, riding an electric bicycle and a motorcycle helmet, the defendant arrived at a grocery store in the Kfar Shalem neighborhood of Tel Aviv. The defendant entered the grocery store, looked around and left, and about fifteen minutes later the defendant returned and entered the grocery store, approached the salesman standing at the cash register and threatened him, "Bring me the money, I have a gun," pointing to his waist. The seller handed him 650 shekels from the cash register, and the defendant fled to his apartment in the Hatikva neighborhood on his bicycle.

In less than an hour, the officers managed to track down the robber and reached his apartment. As they stood at the door waiting for an answer from the other side, the defendant stripped off his clothes, scattered his clothes around the house and hid under the dining table wearing only underwear. After the officers entered, the suspect was found - as were the colorful clothes he was wearing during the robbery.

During his first interrogation, he denied any connection to the robbery and claimed that he had been in the apartment throughout the evening until he was arrested. He then changed his story, saying he rode his bike to a nearby kiosk to buy cigarettes. He explained that he hid from the police because he was about to use drugs, and that he was naked because he was with his girlfriend at the time.

When the officers showed him photos from the scene, in which he appeared to be dressed in the unique clothes found in the apartment, he denied that it was him and then maintained his right to remain silent. The officers sent the clothes for examination and DNA traces of the defendant were found on them.

His roommates also framed him, with one of them saying that he woke up in the early morning and saw the defendant sitting in the living room and when the police knocked on the door, he disappeared and was discovered hiding under a table with only underwear. His roommate said she saw the defendant out with a white bicycle, and another roommate identified the seized clothes as his clothes.
