The Movement for Quality Government petitioned against the law, arguing that it is a personal amendment that "undermines the regime basis in Israel, according to which the judiciary balances and blocks the executive and legislative branches – and its establishment is another transition to dictatorship." The Attorney General joined the movement's position and published a report opposing the law.

A hearing on the movement's petition was held in August before Supreme Court President Justice Esther Hayut, Deputy President of the Supreme Court Justice Uzi Fogelman, and Justice Yitzhak Amit. At the end of the hearing, the Supreme Court justices issued a conditional order regarding the application of the law, and another hearing was scheduled before a panel of 11 Supreme Court justices to be held next Thursday.
