Tunisian President Kais Saied is known for his populist and conspiratorial statements. Since taking power, the Arab ruler has delivered a coup d'état in his country, dissolving parliament, firing dozens of judges and changing election laws. In between, he blamed everyone possible for Tunisia's economic crisis.

Now, Arabic social networks are in turmoil over Said's reference to the storm "Daniel that struck the Mediterranean basin, leading to a catastrophe in Libya. Last week, thousands of people perished in and around the city of Derna. This was after two dams collapsed and the Wadi Derna River overflowed, sweeping hundreds of families into the Mediterranean Sea.

In a broadcast on a local TV channel, Said referred to the storm's Hebrew name. "Didn't they ask or bother to ask about the name they gave to the storm that struck the sister country Libya?" Who? He is a Hebrew prophet. The choice, of course, was made by the parties that choose the names. Didn't one of them ask why the name Daniel was chosen? Because the Zionist movement penetrated, and the mind and thought were attacked."

During the broadcast, which was attended by senior officials in Saied's government on Monday, Saied condemned the use of the name "Daniel" without ascertaining its source. Naturally, social networks did not remain indifferent. "Is the president sane?" one user wondered. Others stated: "He's crazy."

One user concluded: "That is, if they called it Storm 'Said' (after the Tunisian president; S.K.) - It would not have harmed the cities of Libya from the valleys to Derna. The sky would rain candy and we would drown from the rise in blood sugar."
