For the first time in Israel: gasps hatched in a zoo, were transferred for adaptation – and released into the wild | Israel Hayom

Highlights: White owl flowers were transferred from the Biblical Zoo to a special acclimatization cage at Agamon Hula. After successfully adapting and before being released, special transmitters were attached to them. The transmitters are expected to remain on them for one to three months, and then fall off on their own. They thrive in agricultural areas and specialize in hunting rodents found in agricultural fields, and are therefore considered a very successful "natural pest control" source. For the first time in Israel, souls hatched in the Biblical Zoo were transferred to the Acculum Center for adaptation – and later released into the wild.

The story began a few weeks ago, when four white owl flowers arrived at the wildlife acclimatization center at Agamon Hula, after hatching in a display at the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo. Owls moved to a special acclimatization cage located in the heart of the lake grounds, and joined a number of nocturnal flowers who came to the acclimatization center as chicks after falling from the nest, to practice flying and hunting. For about a week and a half, monitoring and monitoring was carried out in the cage to check the condition of the panting in order to ensure successful hunting, quiet flight and behavior suitable for release into the wild.

After all four showed that they met the conditions of release, a special transmitter was attached to them that allows monitoring their activity in the Hula Valley area – and they were released along with the nocturnals. The transmitters are attached to the panting with special glue and are expected to remain on them for one to three months, and then fall off on their own.

Itai Mizrahi, a therapist at the acclimatization center, said that this is the first time the center has released souls that hatched within the walls of a zoo. According to Dr. Rona Nadler-Valensi, veterinarian and director of the Acclimate Center, this is a special opportunity to track individuals that have hatched in the cage, and to observe how they adapt and establish themselves in nature. "These gasps got a chance to acclimatize to the natural release environment outside the zoo. At the acclimatization center, gasps were exposed to natural habitat and food in a protected environment and away from human commotion. The team continues to monitor and monitor the presence of the fresh flowers in the wild, and of course we wish them the best of luck."

With the help of the transmitters, it was possible to see that the panting adapted excellently to the conditions of the place and that they are very active and moving around in the field. They thrive in agricultural areas and specialize in hunting rodents found in agricultural fields, and are therefore considered a very successful "natural exterminator". The Agamon Hula area is scattered with many nesting boxes that serve as nests for owls, thus contributing to an increase in the population of gasps in the area and a reduction in the amount of pest control required in the fields.
