Man's best friend is sometimes a matter of marital conflict. A man who separated from his wife after quite a few years filed a request to stay with the remaining dog with the woman, after both sides claimed that it was a therapy dog for them. Judge Iris Arbel-Assal accepted the request and ordered that he be given time with the dog of several hours several times a week.
The judge noted that it was not a dog that was in the woman's possession prior to the acquaintance between the parties, but rather a dog that was adopted six years after the parties were married. Although the woman is listed as the dog's owner in the animal registry, the applicant's phone number is listed as an additional phone. In addition, text messages sent by the woman during the marriage indicated that she referred to him as the dog's "father," that credit cards of both parties were used to pay for the dog's expenses at the pet food and supplies store, and that the names of the two were also recorded on receipts from the veterinary clinic.

The judge, who granted the man temporary periods of stay until the proceedings continued, added that the findings support the claim that it was a joint dog of the parties and the chances of the main proceeding. "I am of the opinion that the damage that may be caused to the applicant from the rejection of the application at this stage is greater than the damage that may be caused to the respondent or to the dog itself as a result of receiving the request, even if in the end the claim is rejected and the meetings stop," the judge wrote, adding: "Taking into account that at this stage the applicant lives in an apartment where animals are forbidden, I order that the stay arrangements be made in such a way that the applicant will be allowed to stay with the dog three times in the middle of the week for three hours each time. And every Saturday for five hours at a time."
