Residents of Wadi Noam and Azazma in the Negev, together with MK Yusef Atauna (Hadash Ta'al), demonstrated today (Wednesday) over the shortage of classrooms and kindergartens in the Negev, leaving 150 boys and girls from the area without an educational framework.

"The right of children to an accessible educational framework is a basic right in the country, the ministries of education and interior are using these children as hostages to pressure the residents of Wadi Noam and Azazmeh and deport them to the Shaqib al-Salam area," said MK Ataouneh. I call on the Education Ministry to act immediately in order to find a solution to the injustice done to these children, without linking this issue to other issues."
As claimed by the residents, the district committee does not want to grant permission to build additional classrooms even though there are institutions in the area that house 2,500 students. She claims that the reason is that the villages in the area are unrecognized, and uses this argument to pressure residents to move to the Shaqib al-Salam area.
The residents claim that the additional students are part of the natural growth in the area, so they deserve permission to build more classrooms. In practice, the children have to travel a long way to the educational institution every morning or study in tents or caravans.
