After the course, he served as a platoon commander. He was then appointed commander of Company B Barkan in the 46th Battalion, which was the last company in the 401st Brigade to operate Magach tanks, which he commanded until the winter of 2005.

During the Second Lebanon War, Maor served as deputy battalion commander and was later appointed as an operations officer of the 401st Brigade. He then served as commander of Battalion 46 between 2013 and 2015, leading the battalion, among other things, during Operation Protective Edge.

In August 2017, he was promoted to colonel and appointed commander of the Ram Brigade, and at the same time commander of the Tactical Training Center at the IIC, a position he completed in June 2020. On July 22, 2020, he was appointed commander of the 401st Brigade, serving until May 2022. In July 2023, it was decided that Maor would be appointed Chief of Staff of the Training and Training Command and would be promoted to the rank of brigadier general.
