Former Prime Minister Ehud Barak claimed in an interview with CBS on Tuesday that Israelis will resort to nonviolent civil disobedience in order to thwart the legal reform being advanced by the Netanyahu government.

Barak said: "We will block attempts to harm democracy, there will be ups and downs, it may take time, and some people may lose their lives along the way. We will bring an end to it – no matter what the cost."

Barak, who is currently visiting New York, attacked Prime Minister Netanyahu: "Netanyahu's government is illegitimate. He's desperate and isolated, out of focus and out of balance." Barak also claimed that violence against the demonstrators "always comes from the right."

According to him, the protest against the legal revolution promoted by the government will cost lives: "We will have to deal with toil, sweat and tears. There may be violence, which always comes from the right," he said.

On Monday, Prime Minister Netanyahu attacked the Israelis demonstrating against him in the United States, accusing them of "colluding with the PLO, Iran and others." Members of Knesset and the protest organizations against the legal reform strongly condemned Netanyahu's remarks, and hours later a clarification came out from his office: "He meant that supporters of the PLO and BDS would demonstrate at the same time."
