The long arm of the war in Ukraine: A senior defense official in Kyiv told CNN on Tuesday that Ukrainian intelligence services may be behind a series of attacks on Russian-backed forces in Sudan.

The official told the news network that "non-Sudanese forces" carried out a series of acts of sabotage and drone airstrikes on fighters of the Rapid Response Force in Sudan. "Ukraine's special services are probably behind the attacks," the source told the news network.

Attack attributed to Ukraine on pro-Russian forces in Sudan

U.S. media could not independently verify the report, but a series of footage posted on social media clearly show Ukrainian military tactics being used in its war against the Russian army near the Sudanese capital Khartoum. The videos show attacks using civilian drones attached to an RPG launcher, turning them into "suicide" attack drones.

The operators are also seen in some of the videos when they are clearly not local and a caption in Ukrainian appears in some of the videos revealed. The Rapid Response Forces in Sudan is assisted by equipment and experts of the Russian Wagner Force, and experts believe that the Ukrainians are motivated to strike Russian collaborators and their supporters outside the territory of the country.

Sudan's Rapid Response Forces have been waging a civil war against government forces since April. The militiamen managed to capture large parts of the capital Khartun and the nearby city of Omdurman. The fighting began following a dispute between the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the leader of the Rapid Response Forces, Mohammed Hamad Daflago. His flag and men received assistance from Russia through Wagner force mercenaries, including batteries of anti-aircraft missiles that helped them cope with the air superiority of regime forces.
