Municipal election campaigns in the Arab sector continue to serve as fertile ground for wars of control and demonstrations of power by criminal organizations. In the community of Jedeida Makr in the Western Galilee, unknown assailants burned down a house owned by the family of Afif Hajj, candidate for mayor of the village in the Western Galilee.

It should be noted that this was the second attack against Hajj in less than a day. The house sustained extensive damage, but the incident ended without casualties as the property was unoccupied. The arson attack was preceded by gunfire at the house and the vehicles parked in the parking lot, resulting in damage to property and the vehicle.
Afif Hajj said in response to both incidents: "All the attacks and attempts at intimidation will only strengthen me to more strength and determination, I am a person of faith and I will conduct my run in the election campaign with determination and great energy."
Hajj added: "The police came to my home this morning to collect evidence, but the second attack is only evidence of the failure of the police in its work to protect civilians and arrest the perpetrators. I again call for serious intervention and work on arresting the criminals before we find ourselves in a bigger disaster, God forbid."
