Highlights: The move follows statements by government ministers that they do not intend to honor the High Court ruling. A letter announcing this has been circulated among the teaching staff. "There are certain principles that require consensus and which the very challenge to them is dangerous and we must not contain", the letter says. The rally will take place in the plaza in front of the Checkpoint building and next to the Zimbalista Synagogue. The goal is "to present a united front of Tel Aviv University against any statement or questioning of the obligation to obey the court in the State of Israel"

Three weeks before the start of the academic year at the universities, a letter was circulated Wednesday morning among the faculty at Tel Aviv University announcing an hour-long termination of studies, on Wednesday, October 18, between 15:00 and 14:00, in protest of statements by government ministers that they do not intend to honor the High Court ruling.

"The storm and division over the legislative process is not waning. Many of our members express their civic commitment to public action against or for the legislative process, and I am proud of and welcome this activity." Written by Prof. Mark Steif, rector of the university."

During the expected suspension of studies, a rally will be held under the auspices of University President Prof. Ariel Porat and Rector Prof. Mark Steif. The rally will take place in the plaza in front of the Checkpoint building and next to the Zimbalista Synagogue and its goal is "to present a united front of Tel Aviv University against any statement or questioning of the obligation to obey the court in the State of Israel."

In the letter, the rector calls on the academic staff members of the university to show their presence and explains the reason for the protest: "Although even in the extreme reality we live in today, most of the focal points of disagreement are legitimate in my opinion and must be contained, there are certain principles that are required for consensus and which the very challenge to them is dangerous and we must not contain. One of those principles is respect for the law and the recognition that the court is its sole and final authoritative interpreter."
