On the eve of the anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi met with the family of the late Yom Kippur War Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. (ret.) David Elazar (Dado). The meeting took place last Tuesday at Ben-Gurion House in the Rabin (Kirya) camp, from which significant parts of the fighting were conducted. During the meeting, the chief of staff and family members discussed the character of the then chief of staff, his legacy, and the importance of changing the IDF and learning the lessons that were learned.

At the end of the meeting, the Chief of Staff presented Thelma Elazar, the widow of the then Chief of Staff, with a certificate containing two items: first, a day order written by Lt. Gen. (retired) David Elazar at the end of the war in October 1973; The second is a letter written by the current Chief of Staff to mark the jubilee of the war.

In a letter to IDF soldiers, Lt. Gen. Halevy wrote: "The war, which began by surprise, ended with IDF forces threatening the capitals of Egypt and Syria, forcing a ceasefire on them. In our decisions at the military level and in our actions on the battlefield, we bear responsibility for the fate of a nation.
He added: "Our enemies will know that the spirit of the IDF fighters and the cohesion of its ranks are no less than those of the Yom Kippur fighters, and that the IDF is ready, as always, for a multi-front military confrontation if necessary."
