Due to the proximity of the holidays and Tara's exit from the production of supervised milk, the shortage in the supervised milk sector is worsening. As of Tuesday morning, some food chains could not find milk in a carton containing three percent fat, considered the most popular milk in Israel. It was also possible to find one milk percentage, which is supervised, and especially fortified milk, which is a more expensive product.

As mentioned, Tara stopped producing one liter of milk in a carton and left the carton containing only two liters, after it stopped producing milk in bags. This is due to economic unfeasibility. In addition, the proximity of holidays reduced the number of production days. The eve of Yom Kippur fell last Sunday after there was no production on Friday and Saturday.

According to a retail industry source, "Before the holiday, they brought very little supervised milk, and this morning almost none. The assumption is that tomorrow will be sorted out, but still the quantity on the market still does not meet the need." It should be noted that the bottom line is that the milk shortage will meet consumers for a long time to come, since the various dairies do not have to produce milk under supervision. Yes, there is expected to be some milk, as there is now, but there will be cases where there will be a shortage of supervised milk and therefore consumers will have to pay more for various types of milk such as fortified milk, vanilla-flavored milk, low-lactose milk and more.

It should be noted that in light of the shortage in the industry, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich allowed an exemption from customs duties on supervised milk, which in the meantime caused Rami Levy to import private-label milk, and the Yochananoff chain is expected to import milk from Turkey soon. The Minister of Finance decided to extend the customs exemption by six months. The date of the previous order will expire on 7.10. A source in the industry told Israel Hayom that the order has not yet been signed, making it difficult to plan future orders.

A source in the Finance Ministry said in response that the extension of the exemption has been signed and published for public comment and will be published as soon as it returns. This is a procedure that will be followed by the final order. Public comments are due late next week.

"If we hadn't imported, there would have been more shortages." Rami Levy (Archive),

Rami Levy, owner of Rami Levy Shivuk HaShikma, commented on the shortage in the dairy sector and said, "It is known that there is a shortage of milk. Tara does not produce and Tnuva cannot produce all the quantities. In addition, on Yom Kippur they did not work. We have milk from the Rami Levy brand. We have already imported a million bottles so far. If we hadn't imported, there would have been even more shortages."
