The fact that climate change exists and that it poses ever greater problems for people could be seen at the weekend on Alois-Schießl-Platz.

Erding - Eleven disaster control vehicles were on display there, which have been purchased for the Erdinger Land since 2020, including a special vehicle that the Free State of Bavaria has placed in the yard of the Erding fire brigade. A total of more than three million euros have been provided by the Free State, the government of Upper Bavaria and the district, praised District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer during the blessing by the clergy Annemarie Rosner and Henning von Aschen. They are now mainly used in floods such as those in 2013 and 2021.

In addition to the flood equipment truck of the Free State, these are a swap body and a roll-off container hose for the Taufkirchen fire brigade (funding: 79,000 and 50,000 euros), a swap body and a roll-off container for the Dorfen fire brigade (79,000 and 33,000 euros), a roll-off container for dangerous goods for the Isen fire brigade (196,000 euros), a traffic safety trailer for the St. Wolfgang fire brigade (8000 euros), a boat with a trailer for the Altenerding fire brigade, a battery fire extinguishing system for the Oberding fire brigade and two trailers to be able to quickly bring hose trolleys or sandbag filling systems to the scene of the incident against flooding. And for the Isen fire department, work is currently underway to procure a swap body (79,000 euros) and a roll-off container for water (47,190 euros).

Bayerstorfer assured that "despite increasingly difficult financial conditions, the district and municipalities are striving to create the necessary conditions to be able to adequately counter any dangerous situation". But the focus is not only on technology. Bayerstorfer praised the 3700 active members in 68 district fire departments. In view of 450 youth firefighters, he is not worried about the future.

Social Affairs Minister Ulrike Scharf admitted "that climate change is causing more and more heavy rainfall operations". For this, the active members would have to be suitably equipped. District Fire Commissioner Florian Pleiner said: "Protection is taken for granted today, for which we need people and equipment."
