The project is controversial. While it will no longer be possible to produce oil in France from 2040, some operators intend to take advantage of this opportunity until the last moment. Like the Canadian company Vermilion, which intends to maximize the benefits of its Cazaux deposit, with the ambition to dig eight new oil wells. Which would be added to the fifty boreholes already in operation, and whose depth between 2200 to 3800 meters makes it possible to find oil. The one located between 3800 and 5000 meters contributes to the collection of gas.
In France, only the State is empowered to issue rights, authorizing the exploration and exploitation of natural resources of the subsoil when they are classified as mines. If the company is only waiting for the validation of the authorities, the project has provoked the ire of local ecologists. Le Figaro has listed the main oil fields active in France.

Indicated on the map, the 9 main oil fields, which make up the France, are mainly located in the Aquitaine Basin and in the Paris Basin. As recalled by the Minister of Ecological Transition, "the oil production of the France represents 1% of its consumption, which itself represents more than 77 million tons of oil equivalent (toe)". He added that "the France also wants to phase out the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons on its territory." These are the operators who have been warned.
