Herzog demanded that the countries of the world stand by Israel: "History will judge Hamas for its crimes against humanity, and will judge even those who did not speak out against them. I call on the entire international community, those who have always stood by us and those who have traditionally taken a different stand, now is the time to speak out. Now is the time to act to support Israel in speech and action – at home and in international institutions. To our Muslim neighbors and friends in the region who represent other facets of Islam, I say now is the time to show that we all share a mutual respect for human life."
