The New Anti-Capitalist Party (NPA) is under investigation for glorifying terrorism after it issued a statement reacting to Hamas' attack on Israel, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced Tuesday on TMC's "Quotidien" program.
The Paris prosecutor's office's national unit for the fight against online hate referred the matter to the criminal brigade of the Paris judicial police for a statement issued on Saturday, in which the NPA affirmed "its support for the Palestinians and the means of struggle they have chosen to resist." This position is defended by Olivier Besancenot, spokesman for the NPA. "Just like yesterday, we are not advocating for the killings of civilians or kidnappings by Hamas, which we have always condemned," he said on X in the wake of the controversy. "The only apology of which we are guilty is that of our unwavering support for the struggle of the Palestinian people against Israel's colonization."

In another statement issued on Monday, Philippe Poutou's New Anti-Capitalist Party reiterated its positions, deeming the struggle of the Palestinian people "legitimate".

"The number of civilian casualties and the battle of numbers and images are rightly shocking, but should not make us forget that these latest events around the Gaza offensive can only be assessed in the light of the dramatic situation of the Palestinian people," the party wrote.

"Hamas' political and ideological project, strategy and means of struggle are not those of the NPA. We denounce the killings of civilians carried out by Hamas and deplore all Israeli and Palestinian civilian casualties, and denounce all war crimes," the statement continued.
