Six departmental organisations published a text on Tuesday in which they "condemn these particularly appalling events in no uncertain terms". This position runs counter to the national divisions observed within the Nupes.

The Unsubmissive have been under fire since this weekend's tragic events unfolding in Israel. On Tuesday, at a press conference at the National Assembly, the president of the LFI group, Mathilde Panot, described the Hamas attacks as "war crimes". By refusing to speak of a terrorist organisation, she provoked the anger of her socialist colleagues in the Nupes. This Wednesday morning, questioned on France info, Manuel Bompard, coordinator of LFI, reiterated by evoking "acts that aim to sow terror."

In Loire-Atlantique, the atmosphere is quite different and the Nupes does not seem to be on the verge of implosion. Six political organizations in the department, from the left to the far left, have followed in the footsteps of LFI MP François Ruffin, who described Hamas as a "fanatical, terrorist organization, which has always been the adversary of progressives in the Middle East." In a statement issued at the same time, PCF 44, EELV 44, LFI 44, PS 44, GDS (Democratic and Social Left) 44 and Ensemble 44 (Movement for a Left, Ecological and Solidarity Alternative) "condemn Hamas' terrorist attack against Israel and call for political and diplomatic solutions for a just and lasting peace in the Middle East."

'Unambiguous' condemnation

«

United, the left-wing political organisations of Loire-Atlantique condemn these particularly appalling events unambiguously. Nothing ever justifies deliberately attacking civilians," reads the text, which also calls for the "release of all hostages."

On X (ex-Twitter), the municipal elected official and secretary of the PCF 44, Robin Salecroix, specified that "this communication is validated by the organizations mentioned. Now is the time for a general mobilization to win a ceasefire and for diplomatic and political channels to take over."

The GDS 44 network published the communication with the following comment: "The left can be united everywhere on the substance against the war in Israel-Palestine. Long live Nupes! Down with the petty political squabbles on the backs of the Israeli and Palestinian peoples! This is a text that is proof of this signed yesterday, Tuesday 10 October, in Loire-Atlantique."

In the same document, the departmental left states that "these attacks take place in the context of multiple terror raids that the army of the State of Israel and the settlers have been carrying out for several months in the occupied territories, which have caused more than 200 Palestinian deaths since the beginning of the year." She deplores "international inaction, to which France contributes, which has left its hands free for too long and is incapable of enforcing UN resolutions".

The authors call for "resolute action by France and Europe for an immediate ceasefire". This, they say, means "the recognition of the State of Palestine, the dismantling of settlements, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Palestinian territories and the lifting of the anti-Gaza bloc that has been in place since 2007." "Both the Israeli and Palestinian peoples have the right to security and peace! There is an urgent need for de-escalation," the signatories conclude.
