He spent the whole night on the roof of a house in Étampes (Essonne). This Thursday, at around 19:35 p.m., an individual hospitalized in the psychiatry department of the Barthélemy Durand public health establishment in Étampes suddenly threatened the staff with a knife and a fork.
The man, who "did not have all his mental faculties", then managed to flee by climbing the gate before climbing onto the roof of a pavilion located near the hospital on Boulevard Montfaucon. "It was empty of any occupants," said a source close to the case. The individual was 8 metres above the ground.
Raid forces dispatched to the scene
Alerted, his mother tried to reason with him by phone. "To no avail. He remained determined," the source said. In view of the situation, and with no other solution, police officers from the Raid (search, assistance, intervention, deterrence), whose service is established in Bièvres, were then dispatched to the scene around midnight.
Again, the man remained entrenched in his positions and the presence of the security forces did not help matters. The Raid team finally left the scene around 1:40 a.m., without the individual, who remained on the roof of the house. The latter having asked "not to see any more police officers", a "discreet" surveillance was then set up for the rest of the night.
The situation was not resolved until the next morning. On Friday, just before 10 a.m., the man was finally subdued by police officers using a taser. "His arrest was carried out safely," it said.
