North Rhine-Westphalia is sending around 100 radiation measuring devices, so-called personal dosimeters, to the Ukrainian partner region of Dnipropetrovsk. According to the Ministry of Economy, the background is "the possibility of a terrorist act" at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is controlled by the Russian army.
Düsseldorf - Economics Minister Mona Neubaur (Greens) emphasized on Friday that despite the "terrible images and news" from Israel, Ukraine should not be forgotten "right now": "A war is still raging here. The people on the ground need our help. With the personal dosimeters, we are making a small contribution to humanitarian aid."
The radiation measuring devices, worth 60,000 euros, were handed over on Friday to the aid organization Blue-Yellow Cross, which is responsible for the transport to Ukraine. Linda Mai, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Blue and Yellow Cross, thanked the state of North Rhine-Westphalia: "With this help, you can help many people in Ukraine and fight the consequences of the war."
In the spring, NRW gave the go-ahead for cooperation with the Dnipropetrovsk district in southeastern Ukraine. In addition to aid deliveries, reconstruction is to be supported after the war. Dpa
