Between Schöffau and Uffing, a new cycle path is to be built along the GAP 2 district road. The planning has been taken over by the district, the costs for this and for the construction are shared by the district and the municipality of Uffing.

Uffing – The necessity of this construction project was made clear by Anton Speer (Free Voters) at the district committee meeting in Garmisch-Partenkirchen: "Schöffau is the worst connected municipality in the entire planning region 17," said the district administrator. The committee unanimously approved the start of planning for a cycle path between Uffing and Schöffau. Construction is expected to begin in 2025.

For Andreas Weiß, the cycle path is a stroke of luck. "It contributes to the fact that the community is connected to each other in terms of infrastructure," emphasized the mayor of Uffingen, who successfully campaigned for a commitment before the district committee. Schöffau has not yet had a share of public transport, the population is mostly on the road by e-bike, the head of the town hall has noticed. The new route has another advantage: "The residents of the smaller districts and hamlets will be given the opportunity to participate in public life and in the cycling infrastructure," said Weiß.

The specialist planners have planned the route in such a way that existing roads are used. The western section between Schöffau and Völlenbach will be completely rebuilt over a length of 2.8 kilometres. The building burden is borne by the district. A special feature concerns the hamlet of Völlenbach. The roadside cycle path ends here, the 28 residents of the district either have to continue on GAP 2 or take the slightly longer route via Guggenberg and Gut Harberg to get to Uffing.

So there will be no direct bike connection from Völlenbach to Uffing along the district road. Florian Diepold-Erl, the district's climate protection manager, sees this as a "critical area", among other things because three streams are crossed, private land and a nature reserve are affected. The middle section of the new cycle path between the Guggenberg area and Gut Harberg needs to be upgraded. This 1.6-kilometre-long route is ultimately paid for by the municipality of Uffing.

There will be no planning costs for the eastern section from Gut Harberg to Uffing, and there will be no construction work there – it is a municipal local connection road. Only marking work is necessary here, Weiss reported. EUR 50 000 has been earmarked for the planning costs. There was no information on the total financial volume of the project. "We can't estimate that yet," Diepold-Erl regretted.

Nevertheless, questions about subsidy opportunities arose in the district committee. There are no concrete plans for this yet, but funding pots exist, Diepold-Erl said. Rolf Beuting (ÖDP) could only confirm this. In the case of the cycle paths in his market town, there were funding rates of 70 to 90 percent. "The financial burden is bearable," reported the mayor of Murnau. The new route between Uffing and Schöffau is a sensible project. Beuting: "It's going to be a real highlight."
