Dachau – Around 75 people came to the vigil for peace in Israel on Friday afternoon at the Lower Market Square as an expression of solidarity with Israel and as a sign against the terror of Hamas. "We commemorate all the victims on both sides," said Ludwig Gasteiger of the Round Table Against Racism, which organized the vigil on the initiative of District Administrator Stefan Löwl.

Charlotte Knobloch, President of the Jewish Community of Munich and Upper Bavaria, cancelled for health reasons.

Contemporary historian Anna Andlauer from the Indersdorf Contemporary Witness Project reported on her friends and acquaintances who experienced the terrorists' attack on kibbutzim. The grandson of Avram Weiss, who had been accommodated in the Indersdorf children's centre after the war, had spent 17 hours in hiding after the attack on Kibbutz Be'eri. His parents were murdered in the terrorist attack. "Avram Weiss lost his parents in the Holocaust, now his grandson is losing his parents in terror – horrific," said Anna Andlauer. She wished peace for Israel – like all the participants.

After a prayer by pastoral advisor Susanne deininger, they silently remembered the victims, to the sensitive music of Christian Benning, who played the marimba. Exactly one year ago, the percussionist from Dachau was on a concert tour in Israel, as an ambassador for Dachau. NIKOLA OBERMEIER
