Hamburg Police Gives Update: Fire in Elbe Tunnel Extinguished
Around 10:30 a.m., the police announced good news on X (formerly Twitter). The fire has been extinguished and the southbound tube is passable again.
The temporary full closure is the usual procedure in the event of a fire in the tunnel, explained the Hamburg police. This is to prevent further vehicles from getting caught in the flames. Now the Othmarschen slip road is being cleared, the Heimfeld junction in the northbound direction is closed.
No details are yet known about the cause of the vehicle fire.
A violent fire occurred on the Brenner Pass in Tyrol on Wednesday. A truck was loaded with palm oil and burst into flames after an accident. This caused massive traffic jams that extended to the A12. (moe)
