Highlights: Picture gallery and Glienicke Palace should open as much as possible. The closure of the two facilities in 2024 will save about 300,000 euros. Frederick the Great had the picture gallery built between 1755 and 1763/64 for his paintings. He presented almost 180 works of Flemish and Dutch Baroque painting, Italian Renaissance and Baroques. The gallery will be closed on October 31st for the winter break, Gliening Castle is only open on weekends during the winter season.

Contrary to an earlier announcement by the Palaces Foundation, the picture gallery in Potsdam's Sanssouci World Heritage Park and Berlin's Glienicke Palace are to reopen continuously in the spring. In September, the Board of Trustees discussed how to avoid the closure of the houses, spokesman Frank Kallensee said on Wednesday when asked.

Potsdam/Berlin - The federal government has promised financial support elsewhere for 2024.

"The funds freed up by this will be used for the opening of the two locks in 2024," said Kallensee. "Because both Glienicke Castle and the picture gallery are important and beautiful places that should be accessible." A final decision has not yet been made, but could come in the next few days, Kallensee explained.

As every year, the picture gallery will be closed on October 31st for the winter break. Glienicke Castle is only open on weekends during the winter season. The Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation had announced in June that the two houses would have to remain closed to visitors in the coming year due to necessary savings. The closure of the two facilities in 2024 will save about 300,000 euros, it said.
