Charles Vintrou, the owner of the Première cinema in Arpajon (Essonne), will remember his early summer 2023 for a long time. While his establishment had just reopened after a long restoration, young thugs shattered its windows before breaking in to steal computer equipment. In July, the man decided to embark on a process of restorative justice. Complementary to criminal justice, accessible free of charge at all stages of criminal proceedings, it aims to organise a conciliation between the victim and the perpetrator, with the help of a mediator. "Among the thugs, we recognized children who come on weekends," he explains. We thought we had to talk to them, set up a discussion group to understand how and why they got to this point."

In the end, his initiative "did not move forward due to lack of time." "We had to focus on our jobs, and this process is quite demanding," he explains.
