Germering – Once a year, the time has come, the Germering city administration calls for a citizens' assembly. In addition to the heads of departments, who will present their respective specialist departments, it is above all the citizens who are invited. At the end, they have the opportunity to ask their questions to the head of the city and his representatives.

By the end of the year, according to Mayor Andreas Haas, Germering should crack the population of 43,000. In addition to tried-and-tested topics such as the Kreuzlinger Feld, the development of the city centre, the new construction of the Edeka market or a possible swimming lake in Freiham were also on the agenda. Planning drafts for Kreuzlinger Feld have already been submitted by 16 architectural firms, and a jury meeting will take place on 30 November to determine the order of precedence. Furthermore, similar to the design for the new fairground, it is planned to invite the public to the night asylum to get an idea of it. This is to take place from 7 to 22 December inclusive. Afterwards, citizens will have the opportunity to formulate their wishes and concerns and to take part in a planning workshop.

The redevelopment of the former barracks area is on hold. After acquiring the land and relocating it to Germering, the city commissioned a design competition, which was presented to the public in April 2020. "Due to the current budget situation, it has not yet been possible to implement the planning. A possible start of planning is planned for the coming years, depending on financial possibilities. At the same time, the planning requirements for the implementation of the award-winning competition design must be initiated, i.e. the preparation of a development plan and the amendment of the land use plan. This is planned for next year," explains city architect Jürgen Thum. Thum also addressed the development of the Morigl site. A permit for the construction of a residential and office building was granted by the city in May 2023. However, the city is currently not aware of the start of construction.

Childcare and integration

Martin Rattenberger has dedicated himself to the field of childcare. "This year, too, it was not possible to fully meet the reported need for childcare places in Germering's day-care centres," he says. As in previous years, the decisive factor for this is the shortage of skilled workers. Demand planning for the next three years was not carried out until September. In the area of youth facilities, the number of visitors has been consistently high after the Corona pandemic. Rattenberger's team also takes care of issues such as integration, interculturality and asylum accommodation. "One of the main tasks of the Office for Integration is to implement and further develop the integration concept developed especially for Germering 2012," explains the Head of Office. These include the intercultural meeting place "Living Diversity", the educational coordination project and the city festival with an international programme. Regarding the current occupancy and care of the asylum accommodations, he explains that there are still around 80 people in the accommodation on Starnberger Weg, 180 people are accommodated in Industriestraße and about 45 in the accommodation in Augsburger Straße. In addition to the accommodation managers, the care is provided by Caritas Asylum Social Counselling and the two helper groups AK Asyl and Helferkreis Germering.

Dagmar Hager explained the administrative matters. Among other things, she spoke about the accident cluster at the Germering-Süd motorway junction. "In order to eliminate the accident cluster, the reconstruction of the junction was planned and implemented by the Freising State Building Authority and the Autobahn GmbH des Bundes," says the head of the administrative and legal office. An installation of a traffic light system is also to follow.

City treasurer René Mroncz finally disclosed the figures. The total budget for 2023 has a volume of around 138 million euros. A budget brochure with all the details can be found on the city's website.
