Hedge trimming is also a civic duty in Starnberg

Highlights: Hedge trimming is also a civic duty in Starnberg. Overhanging vegetation massively restricts visibility and obscures street lamps, traffic signs or street name signs. Trees and larger branches, which are expected to not offer sufficient resistance to wind and weather influences and could fall onto the traffic area, must be removed in good time, is the appeal. The city of Starnburg asks all property owners to check their trees, hedges and shrubs and, if necessary, to cut them back to such an extent.

Starnberg - Not only the road traffic authority, but also the owners of the properties along the roads are jointly responsible for road safety. This is pointed out by the city of Starnberg.

Trees, shrubs and hedges beautify the townscape. However, it often happens that they protrude into the public traffic area. This can hinder pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. Overhanging vegetation massively restricts visibility and obscures street lamps, traffic signs or street name signs. In addition, the narrowing of the pavements by overgrown trees and shrubs is not only a hindrance for pedestrians, but sometimes also a danger.

Cut at least 2.50 meters above the pavement and 4.50 meters above the street

The city of Starnberg therefore asks all property owners to check their trees, hedges and shrubs and, if necessary, to cut them back to such an extent that the prescribed clearance profile is complied with. "Please take into account that wet woody plants will sink even more. Trees and larger branches, which are expected to not offer sufficient resistance to wind and weather influences and could fall onto the traffic area, must be removed in good time," is the appeal.

The following applies to keeping vegetation free in public traffic areas: On footpaths and cycle paths, a clear clearance height of at least 2.50 metres must be maintained. For motor vehicle traffic, the clear height must be at least 4.50 metres. The trees must be examined for their condition, in particular for stability, and dry branches or dry trees must be completely removed. (kb)
