FSV Mainz 05 remain winless in the Bundesliga. But at least an enormously late goal saves a point. VfL Bochum also doesn't help that an own goal scorer also hits the right goal.

Bochum - Tom Krauß saved a point at VfL Bochum for FSV Mainz 05, who are deep in crisis. The 22-year-old scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time on Friday evening to make it 2-2 (0-1). For both teams, however, the long wait for their first win of the season continues in the Bundesliga. In front of 26,000 spectators at the Ruhrstadion, Kevin Stöger (21st/penalty) and Keven Schlotterbeck (82nd) scored for VfL, but an own goal by Schlotterbeck (59th) and Krauß's goal secured a point for FSV.

The draw hardly helps either team. Mainz remain bottom of the table. Bochum climbed at least to 16th place - but only for one night for the time being. "Very annoying, it hurts extremely when you get the equalizer just before the end, because I think we deserved the win," Stöger said on the streaming service DAZN. Schlotterbeck said it was "difficult to put into words."

The pressure, which has grown in recent weeks with many unfortunate defeats, was felt on both sides. The starting line-ups, which were changed by both coaches to two positions each, started the game with a lot of passion. VfL, in particular, pushed hard and came close to taking the lead when a shot by defender Bernardo was parried by FSV goalkeeper Robin Zentner (2'). The more active style of play demanded by Bochum coach Thomas Letsch and implemented by his players forced the guests into the defensive for the most part in the minutes that followed.

For the hosts, however, the great commitment paid off early on, despite Bernardo's missed opportunity. After a foul by Danny da Costa on Schlotterbeck, referee Patrick Ittrich rightly awarded a penalty with the help of video evidence. Stöger did not miss this chance and scored with a low shot to take a deserved lead.

Even the early substitutions of Jae Sung Lee and Tom Krauß (both 34th) hardly brought about any improvement for Mainz, who had been weak up to that point. Although the pressure on the FSV goal eased noticeably, their own offensive actions remained harmless. Bochum goalkeeper Manuel Riemann was largely unoccupied until the break. And because the misplaced passes in Bochum's build-up play also piled up, the entertainment value of the game increasingly diminished despite all the effort.

It wasn't until the second half that things got off to a lively start again when VfL striker Moritz Broschinski scored to make it 2-0 (46'). However, the goal was cancelled out for offside. However, this action was not a signal for further attacks by Bochum. Instead, the guests now found their way into the game better. Her curious equaliser suited the modest level of the game. Substitute Aymane Barkok sent a shot from Anthony Caci onto the leg of VfL defender Schlotterbeck - from where the ball trickled into the goal.

Shortly before the end, however, the 26-year-old made up for his own goal and scored to give the visitors the lead. Then came Krauss. Dpa
