Royal visit for Söder: Norway's Prince Haakon comes to Munich

In November, the heir to the Norwegian throne, Prince Haakon, will come to the Bavarian capital. But the visit also has a more serious background.

Munich – The palace administration of the Munich Residence must have a lot to do these days. After all, a high-ranking visitor is expected on 6 and 7 November: Crown Prince Haakon Magnus of Norway (50) will pay tribute to the Bavarian capital with a visit on these days. This was announced by the Norwegian Embassy in Berlin on Thursday, October 26. The list of visitors includes not only the city of Munich – Hamburg and Berlin are also on the agenda.

The schedule of the royal visit has not yet been fully worked out for the first day in Munich, on November 6, explains the German Press Agency (dpa) in a statement. However, according to information from the Bild newspaper, the crown prince will land at Munich Airport around noon. In the evening, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (56) is to receive him in the courtyard garden of the Residenz. A festive dinner with invited guests will take place there.

The programme for the second day, 7 November, has already been set. Because the crown prince has also come to Munich for an important matter. He wants to take part in a conference that focuses on defence. This is what the dpa announces. For this reason, the crown prince will also be accompanied by Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram. In the course of the day, Haakon will also visit the arms manufacturer Krauss-Maffei-Wegmann in the north of Munich. Interest is also focused on the Leopard 2 tanks: Norway has ordered a total of 54 tanks, which are to be delivered from 2025 and equipped with Norwegian technology.

According to the plan, Haakon will spend his last evening in Bavaria at the Literaturhaus in Munich. There he will meet the Norwegian writer Maja Lunde and the author Dag Olav Hessen.

After a round of discussions, he will fly on to Hamburg by plane. There, the heir to the Norwegian throne will discuss the topics of energy, infrastructure and shipping together with representatives of the industry before heading to Berlin on the evening of 8 November, where his wife Mette-Marit (50) will join them. She has not been in good health lately. Both are staying until November 9 for the commemoration of the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, 34 years ago.
