President Emmanuel Macron and his Senegalese counterpart Macky Sall discussed "diplomatic relations" and "economic exchanges" between their countries on Friday (October 27th) during a meeting at the Élysée Palace, the presidency said. They "provided an overview of the bilateral relationship between our two countries, both in terms of diplomatic relations and their economic exchanges," the Elysée Palace said.
The two heads of state also "shared their analysis of the situation in the Sahel and more particularly in Niger, in the context of support for the decisions of ECOWAS", the Economic Community of West African States, "and the return to France of our military means", added the presidency. The two heads of state "reviewed the momentum launched by the Paris Pact for People and the Planet", which "will be at the heart of the Paris Peace Forum".
The latter will take place on 10 and 11 November 2023, ahead of COP28, the UN climate conference, organised in Dubai from 30 November to 12 December. According to the Elysee, Macky Sall "welcomed the acquisition by the State of Senegal of the property that belonged to President Léopold Sédar Senghor, sold at auction in France and which will be integrated into the Senegalese heritage".
